The scream reverberated through the room and Paul's memory. The thing that shared his body reeled back in surprise.
"You will die without my help!" It sneered.
Paul ignored the protests. He focused on the pain. The every present, burning pain. He screamed again, happy that he could feel himself more and more. He peered at Maya, who stared at him in wonderment.
"This has never…Paul..You're changing back!" her hand holding the wicked knife lowered.
Paul felt relieved at this. He could hear Tal'Shen's screaming but it was becoming quieter as he focused on his body. He could feel the tentacles starting to push out of him of their own accord. He looked down and one dropped to the floor and lay there squirming. He took his hand and found another appendage. He pulled with all his might and another tentacle sprang free.
He stared at Maya with pleading in his eyes and she nodded. She ran over to his side and pulled on another tentacle. It came out easily and she worked frantically on the next one. Finally all of them including the cleaved one were lying there in a mound of quivering flesh. Paul stepped away from the mess and touched his face.
"The beak is becoming smaller," Maya said in awe. "How are you doing this?"
Paul did not answer yet. He couldn't. But he knew the answer. He was stronger than the being inside him. He would rip the being out.
He felt his face again and his mouth was becoming more like a man's. He finally tried to speak.
"P—Proxital" he stammered, surprised he could get even that word out.
Maya ran to get a syringe. She came back and unceremoniously jabbed his arm. Paul felt another scream from the entity and it receded further back into his consciousness. He would love to pull it out from his body but didn't know how.
He touched his mouth once again and found that his lips were normal. How did this happen?
He turned to Maya "Do I look ok?"
"You look normal Paul, I don't know how. You reversed the process. That has never happened before."
Paul was about to speak when the door opened. A strange woman with huge eyes entered. She looked at Maya and Paul hard, her face grim.
"You fool, Paul!" Lysanna screamed at him. "You are killing my child!"
